Lumino Satellite Quantum Network Simulator Available to the Community

Lumino Technologies, a UK company specialising in free space quantum and optical communications, has successfully completed a European Space Agency (ESA) project developing a Satellite Quantum Information Network Simulator. Lumino was supported in the project delivery by an expert team from Heriot Watt University , which also leads the Integrated Quantum Networks Hub.

In just 10 months the team was able to produce a tool that can simulate a wide range of satellite-enabled quantum network topologies. We expect the tool will be an important enabler supporting the development of satellite-based quantum networks, by allowing assessment of potential architectures, technologies and performances of such networks.

We are pleased to make this available for experimentation to the community. Please register and access the tool here.

Dr Alex Koehler-Sidki, Director of Quantum Technologies at Lumino, said, "Quantum information networks of the future will require satellites to reach a global scale but understanding what those networks might look like and how they would perform has not been easy. It was a real pleasure to develop something user-friendly for the quantum community and work alongside ESA to plug that gap. I'm excited to see what comes next."
